My Paradigm Shift

Things have really changed in the world of drug addiction treatment then say, 6 years ago when I first checked Alison into treatment, and knew nothing on top of nothing about the matter. In 2007, the model for rehab was a 3 week residential program followed by intensive outpatient services while the client stayed at sober living. Now, we’d laugh at 3 weeks, or even 3 months knowing 6 months to a year is necessary to detox, repair brain, regain clear thinking, move from sobriety to recovery, and then maintain recovery for some months before testing the waters of the world again.

Today we spoke and my daughter seemed grounded and had clarity. She expressed a desire to stay in rehab and change her life. I heard confidence and competence and encouraged her according to my new ways;

• Visualize yourself staying where you are, and have complete confidence that you will be going nowhere else
• Dowse and ask your angel to help you stay in the healing place you are at
• Trust God

Whatever drew me to this place I don’t know- some would call it dumb luck, but I call it destiny. Am I talking about the rehab, or the new place in my mind? Both!

Ding-a-ling-a-ling “Hi Mom- John and Patti are driving me up to Grandma’s for a face-to-face meeting about my future, and then they’re taking me to The Ivy for lunch.”
