The Circle Of Happiness

I was asked to comment on ‘giving’, so I did some thinking and some reading, and came up with this;

barteringMany of us are unconsciously so self-centered that everything we do, even within our closest relationships, is actually bartering rather than unselfish giving, even when dealing with ourselves. When we give with the expectation of receiving something in return, we are not really letting go of what we are giving. If we do not let go completely, then we are still clinging to whatever we gave. When you give ‘freely’ without expecting something in return, that is called ‘unconditional.’

The mind set of ‘scarcity’ promotes hoarding and clinging. In reality, there is no scarcity, just scarcityunequal distribution. On some level it seems that we are all susceptible to the idea of scarcity. Having a scarcity mind set is something like going through life trying to fill up a bag that has a hole in the bottom of it. Hoarding creates scarcity because it is based on the perception that everything is limited, and it ignores the amazing benefits of contribution.

Often we do not give unconditionally- often  times we give in order to get something in return, even if it is simply the gratitude from the recipient. Expecting homage or appreciation for a gift is narcissistic, and the giving becomes a means  to solicit flattery, attention, and admiration for the deed.

My mother and father both told me the concepts of unselfish giving;

  • Give for the joy of giving.
  • Giving is better than receiving.
  • Give without expecting anything in return.

I can tell you personally that unconditional giving completes the circle of happiness, and these are some of the other benefits of unselfish giving;

1. Giving feels satisfying. When you give without wanting anything in return it opens up your heart to an enhanced sense of peace, love and joy.

2. Giving stimulates gratitude.  Giving without expectation will elevate your personal awareness of others. As a result, you will feel increasing levels of compassion and gratitude.

3. Giving attracts giving. What we put into the world has a powerful influence on what we receive. This is part of a  giant feedback loop.  The energy of giving has a very positive influence on how you experience your world.

4. Giving makes you aware of limiting beliefs. When limiting beliefs like selfishness and greed become exposed to your conscious awareness, then you can work on letting them go. If you are unaware of their existence, they remain active in your subconscious. If they continue unchecked, you may wind up attracting the exact opposite of what you intended.
