Todd Akin Redefines Rape

If you haven’t heard by now, this will shock you.

Republican Congressman Todd Akin claimed this weekend that victims of “legitimate rape” don’t get pregnant, because, “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

In the 112th Congress, Akin sits on the House Science Committee. That’s right, this is the man that Speaker Boehner and the Republican party have chosen to lead our nation’s science policy. This is outrageous- republicans’ continued utter disregard and disrespect for women and not to mention the stupidity and lack of ‘science’ behind the statement.

What does he takes us for? If Mr. Akin’s wife got raped (God forbid) and ended up pregnant, would one have to conclude (following Todd’s philosophy) that she either asked for it, or enjoyed it?
